Design Question

Is it necessary for a museum to have a heavy structure and be so restricted within itself?

The idea of the museum not being restricted to a defined region but being part of an entire area such that people wouldn't have to travel to a particular site to experience a museum. The whole area becomes a museum of itself.

Design Intention

The new museum is reimagined as plug- ins to the existing buildings of a particular area and as a whole forming a route which passes through various buildings and streets where people can experience different programs happening around them.

Site Analysis

Ballard Estate

It is a commercial area in south bombay, it has neoclassical architecture with open spaces in between buildings connected through gated alleys which are now inaccessible. The streets of the ballard estate are usually full with cars parked which gives a certain restriction to the movement of people.
