Course Outline
The site study located a sense of distinct publicness through its subjects within the environment and how it expanded or represented within the public realm.
The focus of this studio was to assimilate and understand the logic of space making in the realm of the public , to be able to generate field specific programmatic responses and to craft the built form through social- cultural- environmental considerations while opening up the notion of detail in architecture.
The course helped us to carry out detailed development and refinement of building design through technical resolution of structural systems, material performance and experience, member assembly, threshold-enclosure details and process of construction.
Scope and Design Intent
Varying widths and varying densities of a place prompts the uses and activities of the people.
diverse activities are facilitated by how one acts or relate to the space and is reinterpreted by its users. People and people, people and objects, and people and the surroundings, connect and separate, fostering diverse forms of relationships.
The narrow alleyway caters to many different activities like the stairs used for storage space, space below staircase used for keeping water drums, thresholds used by people to sit etc. it's like being in one space yet belonging to many places.
The houses inflate like a balloon, the term inflating in the sense that the house literally expands to the street and progressively metamorphose into each other.
